Burscough Industrial Estate

Burscough is a large village in West Lancashire north of Ormskirk, through which the arterial A59 road passes. The village owes much of its current existence to the Leeds Liverpool Canal that passes through.

The Industrial Estate is most noteworthy for being the site of the Burscough RNAS Airfield during the Second World War. There are still plenty of relics from its existence as an airstrip, with many of the hangars from the WW2 days still used.

Currently the site of many Sunday morning car boot sales - but previously the setting for HMS Ringtail. The Admiralty acquired 650 acres (2.6 km2) of land in December 1942 and the airfield was built with four runways and several hangars, being commissioned on 1 September 1943.
