Arromanche

Arromanche. Positioned on Gold Beach. The site of the Mulberry Harbour (the one which lasted.)

There were two Mulberry Harbours built one here and one at Omaha. This was built by the British and survived the huge storm that hit the beaches in June 1944 several days after D Day.

The American Mulberry Harbour was so badly damaged by the storm that they cannibalised it to repair the damage done to the temporary harbour here at Arromanche.

Some of the harbour units are very visible and can still be reached at low tide.
