Burscough Airfield
Wonderful area for "forgotten" modern history here. The Industrial Estate at Burscough was built on the remains of the RNAS Ringtail airstrip which served the Royal Navy during the Second World War.
There are still many old hangars from the era used as storage huts in the current industrial estate. One or two of the old hangars are huge and are still very much in use.
It only takes a small amount of investigation to identify the remnants of the sites former use. This particular set were accessed by trudging down something of a highly pot holed dirt type track. The buildings in the shots were used for storing, for example the explosives (weapons etc) and fuel for the planes.
