Burscough Tornado

 

Having experienced Hurricane Charlie in August 2004 in Florida, the concept of freakish weather conditions isn't exactly new to us - though when Ben shouts "Dad there's a Tornado out the back" perhaps I could have been forgiven forgiven for having a little scepticism...! Nevertheless I dutifully grabbed the camera and shot up the stairs to get the best view of the event from the Attic.

 

Would you believe it....turns out we do get Tornadoes in the UK - more so than people realise.

 

Technically this wasn't a true Tornado since it didn't actually touch down (which is the technical qualifying factor for "Tornado" status.) Had several of these shots published by the BBC, Granada Reports and Sky News.

 

If you look carefully - there is a stage where the cloud is trying to push down two funnel clouds simultaneously - though the second one is quite undefined.
