Dieppe
A lovely town on the coast of Normandy, though much further North than the D Day landing site.
This town was the area where an unsuccessful attempt to invade Europe was led by Canadian and Scottish troops in 1942, a mission which much was learned from before the "more successful" 1944 landings.
Of particular interest is the beautiful, though now somewhat dilapidated St. James Church, which is badly war damaged and an excellent relic of the battles of the time. The church is in such a bad state that extensive netting is used to stop debris falling on the congregation!!
