Longues Batterie

 

An incredible place!

 

This battery is set up as a forward (cliff-top) central observation point with four huge canons situated behind, aimed and directed by the observation building.

 

It seems incredible that the amount of metal work in the canons has survived the war and since.

 

The observation building was used at the start of the film "The Longest Day."

 

The canons and their housing give a real insight into the power of the German opposition, the ferocity of conditions on the beaches for the Allied Troops and living conditions for the German Troops who must have led a miserable existence here waiting for the invasion, rather in the hope that it wouldn't come
