St. Mere Eglise

 

The paratroopers landed here on the night approaching 6th June (some of the earliest action of D Day) - and fell right into a heavily defended German stronghold. Paratrooper John Steele was the guy whose parachute was caught up in the church tower - and made famous through the film "The Longest Day."

 

A dummy paratooper now hangs in his memory!
