St. Lo
St Lo, Normandy. Characterised as a town absolutely destroyed as it was "liberated" from the German Army during June 1944. The current town has relatively modern buildings, as one would expect from the re-build, and a cathedral which has been crudely repaired from its previous magnificent state.
Nevertheless, that cathedral stands as a witness to what the town experienced in June 1944. The cathedral itself bears many, many scars from what must have been horrendous violence during the liberation period.
Disturbing, yet deeply fascinating.
