Utah Beach

 

One of the  two American D Day landing sites (along with Omaha Beach) on the Normandy coast. Characterised with long, sloping sand (very soft sand) - must have been incredibly difficult to reach cover under the bombardment of the German defences. Nevertheless, the Us Troops arriving here managed to make headway rather more quickly than those ;anding in the horrendous conditions of Omaha Beach just a short distance along the coast.
